Fiona McKenzie

Managing Director of MCT Research, Fiona runs a small experienced team working across a range of projects, primarily focused on mapping trends in the news industry across EMEA, APAC, the US and LatAm.

She is also senior consultant on specialist reports on competitors, markets, emerging technologies, and customer service in the news industry.

Most recently, she has worked on projects covering environmental journalism, mapping the philanthropic landscape in Latin America, and analysing how news companies are using AI.

Fiona set up MCT Research in 2016 after five years working on competitor intelligence projects with IRN Research.

Previously a key member of the executive team for mobile operator Three, she was head-hunted to launch the world’s first TV/video service on 3G mobile phones. As the first director of the BBC’s Content R&D unit, BBC Imagineering, she enabled programme-makers across the BBC to experiment with new media, research cross-platform content ideas, and put the BBC at the forefront of future technology developments.

Fiona has also held senior executive positions at the BBC in documentaries, run her own independent company, Black Hill Productions, making films/programmes for the BBC, and was Director of the Edinburgh International TV Festival.
